Q) Is the K3 compatible with my device?
A) We have partnered with iGo to offer a complete line of iGo™ patented adapter tips. Additional adapter tips can be purchased at the Kinesis Store, www.igo.com and select retail stores.
Q) How do I recharge my K3 using wind and the sun?
A) With direct sunlight and/or a good breeze. Don't keep your K3 in a dark closet because the K3 needs wind or solar energy to charge the internal battery.
Q) What is the K3's recommended wind speed range?
A) The K3's optimal wind speed range is about 10mph - 40mph for generating electrical power with its mini-wind turbine. While a strong, consistent wind exposure is recommended for best results, DO NOT attach your K3 to a fast-moving vehicle for charging, as this may damage your K3.
Q) My K3 is not charging my device using the USB cord that came with the original product. What's wrong?
A) Many manufacturers do not make their products compatible with third party chargers. That is why you need to use the charging cable included with the K3 along with compatible power tips using the iGo system.
Q) Can I use my device while plugged in and charging from the K3?
A) You bet!
Q) Why does the K3 sometimes take longer to recharge?
A) Weather conditions, cloud cover, sunlight intensity, wind speed/consistency and many other factors will affect recharging your K3. You also have to keep the K3's solar panel clean; like any solar panel, dust and dirt will impede the solar efficiency. Plus, your K3 has a large 4,000 mAh battery, so while you may not see instant results from the four LED status lights, the K3 will start recharging its internal battery as soon as it is exposed to wind or sunlight.
Q) Can the K3 charge a laptop?
A) Unfortunately no. The K3 is specifically designed to charge your 5V devices only, but stay tuned!
Q) Is the K3 waterproof?
A) Your K3 is weather proof/water resistant, but not waterproof. Avoid fully submerging your K3 in water.
Q) Tell me more about wind and solar power and how the K3 captures both?
A) The K3 incorporates two different ways to generate electricity. The first is a miniature wind turbine. Wind turbines operate on a simple principle - the energy in the wind turns the propeller blades around a rotor. The rotor is connected to a shaft, which spins a generator to create electricity. The second is a solar panel. Solar panels convert sunlight directly into electricity. This is called the photovoltaic effect. Photons in sunlight strike the solar panel and are absorbed by semiconducting materials, such as silicon. Electrons are knocked loose from their atoms and flow through the panel, producing direct current electricity. The K3 uses a monocrystalline solar panel. This type of panel does not lose as much of its output capacity at elevated temperatures, unlike a polycrystalline panel, and is also better generating electricity in low light.
